Kenyan youth beneficiaries of the National Youth Opportunities Towards Advancement (NYOTA) programme are set to join hundreds of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) at the 2026 EAC MSME Trade Fair in Kigali, Rwanda.

The inclusion of NYOTA beneficiaries is part of government efforts to expose young entrepreneurs to regional markets, build their capacity and help them establish business networks beyond Kenya.

Cabinet Secretary for Cooperatives and Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Development Wycliffe Oparanya said the government is committed to creating opportunities that enable small businesses to grow from local enterprises into competitive regional businesses.

Principal Secretary Susan Mang’eni said about 100 of the Kenyan exhibitors earmarked for the Kigali fair will be young entrepreneurs drawn from government-supported programmes, including NYOTA.

She said giving young businesses access to regional trade fairs would help them understand market requirements, improve their products and explore opportunities under the African Continental Free Trade Area.

Kenya is expected to send about 500 exhibitors drawn from all 47 counties, with the ministry seeking additional support to increase the delegation to as many as 1,000 businesses.

The preparations involve stakeholders from government agencies, the private sector, academia, development partners and MSME organisations, with coordination focusing on logistics, certification, financing, security and the movement of exhibitors and goods to Kigali.
Kenya will showcase its leather value chain during Kenya Day on November 5, while the wider trade fair will provide opportunities for businesses to engage on digital trade, women in business, access to finance, capacity building and regional market access.

The 26th EAC MSME Trade Fair is expected to attract nearly 2,000 exhibitors, giving Kenyan entrepreneurs, including NYOTA beneficiaries, an opportunity to showcase their products and establish partnerships across the East African Community.
