Kenyans to Receive New National IDs Within 10 Days as Government Deploys 600 Digital Devices
The government has procured 600 Digital Live Capture (DLC) devices that will enable new national identity cards to be processed and issued within 10 days, down from the weeks or months applicants have often waited in the past. According to Principal Secretary for the State Department for Immigration and Citizen Services, Belio Kipsang, the machines digitally capture applicants' fingerprints, photographs, signatures, and other biometric data, allowing information to be transmitted instantly for verification and processing. The technology is expected to reduce delays, eliminate manual errors, clear application backlogs, improve access to ID registration services nationwide, and enable Kenyans to obtain identification documents much faster for employment, banking, education, and other essential services.
