Thika Road Motorists Raise Alarm Over Instant Speed Fines and Missing Signage

Motorists using Thika Road have raised concerns over what they describe as instant speed fines being issued along the highway, especially in sections where speed limit sign posts are not clearly visible.

Drivers say the enforcement is strict despite unclear signage, leading to unexpected fines and confusion among road users. They are now urging the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) and Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) to urgently install clear and visible speed limit signboards.

The affected areas include:

Witeithie stretch

Kamakis
kenol -Makenji section
Ruiru–Kenol corridor

Motorists claim that even minor speed variations are being captured by cameras, resulting in immediate penalties, which they argue are punitive in areas lacking proper warning signs.

They are calling for improved road marking, early warning sign posts, and public awareness to help drivers comply with speed limits and avoid unnecessary fines.

The appeal comes amid growing frustration from road users who say road safety enforcement should go hand-in-hand with clear infrastructure and proper communication to motorists.
