Sakaja Marks Eid-ul-Adha with 700 Goat Donation to Muslim Residents In Nairobi
Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja has earned widespread praise after distributing 700 goats to Muslim families across Nairobi City County as part of Eid celebrations, in a gesture aimed at promoting generosity, unity, and support for vulnerable households.
The distribution exercise was carried out across several Nairobi sub-counties, with Muslim community leaders, local administrators, and mosque committees helping to coordinate the process. The goats were distributed through neighbourhood coordination points linked to mosques in areas such as Eastleigh, South C, and other Muslim-populated communities, ensuring that families in need were reached in time for the celebrations.
Governor Sakaja said the initiative reflects the true meaning of Eid, which is centered on sacrifice, compassion, and sharing with those who are less fortunate. He emphasized that his administration remains committed to inclusive leadership that supports all communities during important cultural and religious occasions.
“Eid reminds us of the importance of giving and standing with one another as a society Watu Wakule Mbuzi "
As a county government, we want every family to feel included and able to celebrate with dignity,” he said.
Beneficiaries expressed gratitude, saying the donation would help them prepare traditional Eid meals and ease financial pressure during the festive period. Many noted that the support came at a crucial time when the cost of living remains high. “This has really helped us. We are thankful to the governor for remembering us during Eid,” one resident said.
Religious leaders welcomed the initiative, describing it as a thoughtful and unifying gesture that strengthens ties between the county government and Muslim communities.
The program adds to similar goodwill initiatives in previous festive seasons, where the county government has supported vulnerable families through food donations and outreach efforts during both Christian and Islamic holidays.
