The countdown is on as Kenya’s professional golf calendar comes alive with the second edition of the Professional Golfers of Kenya Equator Tour, teeing off at the scenic Vet Lab Sports Club from April 23 to 26.

More than just a tournament, the PGK Equator Tour is now firmly positioned as the gateway to global golf, directly linking local competition to international opportunities. The tour serves as the official qualifying pathway to the Magical Kenya Open, where top Kenyan professionals earn slots to compete on the prestigious DP World Tour stage.

At the same time, every swing, point, and ranking on the tour contributes to a bigger dream—the journey toward the 2028 Summer Olympics, with the series forming part of Kenya’s long-term Olympic qualification pipeline.

This dual pathway has transformed the Equator Tour into one of the most important sporting platforms in the country, giving players clear purpose and direction.

“The Equator Tour is more than just a local competition—it is the road to the Magical Kenya Open and the Olympics,” noted PGK leadership in previous remarks, highlighting the tour’s growing global relevance.
The four sponsored professional golfers—Matthew Wahome, Samuel Chege, Mohit Mediratta and Mutahi Kibugu—pose with their trophy as Safaricom celebrates clinching the corporate title at the Professional Golfers of Kenya Equator Tour, finishing top among all corporate sponsors.
Backed by Safaricom through a KES 3 million sponsorship, four rising stars—Mutahi Kibugu, Samuel Njoroge, Matthew Wahome, and Mohit Mediratta—are among those leveraging this platform to sharpen their game and chase international glory.

“We are proud to continue supporting these golfers as they grow and compete at higher levels,” said Peter Ndegwa. “This series is creating real impact by preparing them for global stages like the Magical Kenya Open.”

The host venue has also underscored the importance of the event in growing the sport locally.

“We are delighted to host the PGK Equator Tour once again. This event showcases top professional talent while strengthening Kenya’s position as a hub for golf development. We welcome fans and the wider community to come and experience the tournament,” said a Vet Lab Sports Club official.

For players like Mutahi Kibugu, the stakes are clear—performance on this tour could define their future.
“We are excited for this year’s edition and ready to compete strongly again as we aim to defend our title,” he said.

With over 50 professionals set to battle it out in Nairobi, the message is clear: this is not just a competition—it is a launchpad.

From Vet Lab’s fairways to Karen Country Club and ultimately to the Olympic stage in Los Angeles, the PGK Equator Tour is turning local talent into global contenders.
Matthew Wahome, a professional golfer, tees off at the start of the Professional Golfers of Kenya Equator Tour at Vet Lab Sports Club.
Fans, stakeholders, and aspiring golfers are encouraged to follow the action closely—because every round played this week is a step closer to the Magical Kenya Open and the Olympic dream.
