The final day of Safaricom Decode 4.0 celebrated Kenya’s thriving digital creative economy, highlighting how music, gaming, animation, and digital content are driving innovation and opportunity for young creators. The event emphasized not just talent, but the systems and platforms that enable creators to succeed, with Safaricom at the forefront.
Fawzia Ali, Chief Consumer Business Officer at Safaricom, spoke about the purpose of Decode 4.0: “Decode is our way of building the rails of Kenya’s creative economy. It is designed to give creators, gamers, startups, and young innovators the tools, skills, and platforms to not just participate, but to thrive. We are turning creativity into opportunity.”
Ali highlighted the advantages Safaricom brings to the sector. Platforms like M-PESA, GlobalPay, Ziidi, and Bonga provide seamless payments and monetization. Baze enables content distribution and discoverability, while Safaricom Hook delivers access to digital skills and affordable data. Spark Accelerator supports startups, bridging the gap between creativity and sustainable business growth.
She added, “Decode 4.0 is about more than an event—it is about creating a connected ecosystem where music, gaming, and animation can scale. We are strengthening support for gamers, expanding developer and AI skills, and unlocking new pathways for creators to reach global markets.”
With nearly one in four young Kenyans now engaged in digital content creation, Decode 4.0 is positioning the country as a regional hub for innovation and creative entrepreneurship, offering mentorship, funding opportunities, and digital tools that empower creators to turn ideas into impactful businesses.
“The future of Africa’s creative economy will not just be defined by talent, but by the systems that support it,” Ali concluded, underscoring Safaricom’s commitment to nurturing a thriving, sustainable creative ecosystem.
