John Mwaura Accepts DCP Nomination, Assures He Will Blends Business Experience with Reform Agenda in Kiambu Gubernatorial Race


John Mwaura has officially been crowned the Democratic Change Party (DCP) gubernatorial candidate for Kiambu County, marking his formal entry into a high-stakes political contest anchored on fairness, accountability, and socio-economic transformation.

In his acceptance speech, Mwaura framed his candidacy as a transition from private sector leadership to public service, saying his background in business has shaped his belief in efficiency, accountability, and results-driven governance.
Before entering active politics, Mwaura built his profile in the business sector, where he was involved in enterprise development and commercial ventures that exposed him to challenges facing investors, entrepreneurs, and small businesses. He said this experience gave him firsthand insight into how policy gaps, inefficiencies, and inconsistent service delivery affect economic growth at the county level.
 in his acceptance speech at the DCP headquarters he assured the party leader Rigathi Gachagua of carrying the DCP flag during the 2027 general election 
 He urged the people of Nairobi he shall unite the cosmopolitan county with development owing to his past experience in development agenda 
 “Kiambu is not living up to its full potential—and the reason is leadership,” he said, arguing that governance must adopt a more structured, performance-oriented approach similar to the private sector.

Kiambu County, with over 2.8 million residents and a strong economic base in agriculture, manufacturing, real estate, and services, remains a key contributor to Kenya’s economy. However, Mwaura said this potential has not been fully translated into inclusive prosperity.

He pointed to disparities in resource allocation compared to Nairobi, arguing that such imbalances undermine the spirit of devolution and weaken local economic competitiveness.

Healthcare reform remains central to his agenda. He called for better-equipped facilities, strengthened health systems, and improved conditions for medical personnel, stressing that access to quality healthcare should be universal.
“Healthcare is not a privilege. It is a basic right,” he emphasized.

Mwaura also highlighted youth unemployment, pressure on households, and challenges facing farmers, pledging policies that support enterprise growth, job creation, and agricultural productivity.

Infrastructure development, especially road networks, was also cited as a priority to improve connectivity and stimulate economic activity.

As he formally takes up the DCP ticket, Mwaura positioned himself as a leader bringing business discipline into governance, calling for a results-oriented approach to county management.
His nomination sets the stage for a closely watched gubernatorial race, defined by competing visions of leadership, economic transformation, and service delivery in Kiambu County.
