Aviation Workers Issue 7-Day Strike Notice Over KCAA Row

A fresh crisis is looming in Kenya’s aviation sector after the (KAWU) issued a 7-day strike notice to the (KCAA), accusing management of breaching a return-to-work agreement.

In a strongly worded statement, the union said the deal signed on February 17, 2026, before Transport CS , has “collapsed” due to KCAA’s failure to implement key provisions.

KAWU claims KCAA has ignored commitments to unionize Grade 4 and 5 staff, respect court orders, and end victimization of employees. The union also alleges fresh cases of unlawful dismissals, including one reported last week without due process.

The standoff now threatens to derail ongoing collective bargaining agreement (CBA) negotiations, with the union warning that failure to fully restore the agreement will trigger a nationwide strike next week.

KAWU has urged the government to intervene, warning travellers to prepare for possible disruptions if the dispute remains unresolved.
