A call for Africa’s leaders to invest in youth, culture, and sustainable development.

During the Mandela African Leadership Summit 2026 in Nairobi, iBenjamen “Iben” Adeyanju, a Silicon Valley-based climate and energy specialist, delivered a compelling call for Africa’s leaders to invest in youth, culture, and sustainable development. He highlighted that empowering young Africans with skills, innovation opportunities, and climate-smart solutions is critical not only for economic growth but also for ensuring job security among the continent’s growing workforce. Adeyanju stressed that sectors like agriculture, renewable energy, and sustainable infrastructure present vast opportunities for youth-led entrepreneurship and employment, turning challenges into engines of prosperity.
Linking innovation to Africa’s cultural heritage, Adeyanju noted that traditional knowledge and local practices can complement modern technologies. By blending indigenous agricultural methods with climate-resilient solutions, Africa can strengthen food security, preserve cultural identity, and foster sustainable livelihoods. He emphasized that youth engagement in culturally grounded innovation creates both economic opportunities and community resilience, ensuring young people have a stake in shaping their nations’ futures.
The Summit reinforced this vision, placing culture, environmental stewardship, and youth leadership at the heart of Africa’s growth agenda. Adeyanju urged policymakers to design strategies that create jobs, leverage cultural wisdom, and support sustainable innovation, ensuring that young Africans are drivers—not spectators—of progress.
In essence, Adeyanju’s message was clear: Africa’s long-term prosperity hinges on investing in youth, protecting food systems, and honoring cultural identity. By empowering young innovators to lead, the continent can secure jobs, livelihoods, and a resilient, self-reliant future
